For the vast majority of us, we don?t have strong personal shittot and 
authentic family minhagim to decide amongst the different shittot - we 
go by local communal peak.  RZS,  family habad, may have those shittot - 
but for most of us we follow the shitta of our community/posek - and if 
we move, we would likely follow the shitta of our new community.  (Eg, 
It is difficult to believe that anyone has a strong family minhag about 
gelatin, given recent origin of its use?- and the possum on both sides 
are not lightweight - any minhag is at best one or two, maybe 3 
generations?).  Same thing with halav hacompanies)

With that (and even with those who have shittot), there is a sense that 
one can rely on other authentic shittot - especially as guest - and also 
that those who follow other shittot are not just being meikil or eating 
trafe?

Famous story of RSZA telling head of Michlala that his American students 
can go eat at their RZ families in Israel who keep Rabbanit hashgacha - 
because it is kasher, and even though he has different shittot, they can 
eat there.

Rav of former community - impeccable hared credentials, musmach of rav 
Henkin zt?l - held one could eat from the hashgacha of any Orthodox 
rabbi - unless one knew there was a problem..(it seems that this was rav 
Moshe?s shitta too?)

So yes, for almost everyone, ehrlichkeit is more important?

Are you referring to temporary prophets such as Lavan?
My own sense from Tanach is that Rambam?s claim is not inconsistent with
Tanach, with a few ?horaah shaah? exceptions.

Rambam himself in Shemonah Perakim, chapter 7, explains (Translation
mostly from: Gorfinkle, Joseph Isaac, New York : Columbia University Press,
1912):

    No prophet received the gift of prophecy unless he possessed all
    the mental virtues and a great majority of the most important moral
    ones.... It is not, however, an indispensable requirement that a
    prophet should possess all the moral virtues, and be entirely free
    from every defect...

    Solomon had the moral defect of lust, which is plainly evident
    from the fact that he took so many wives, a vice springing from the
    disposition of passion which resided in his soul.
    Even David... we find guilty of cruelty, and, although he exercised
    it only against the heathens, and in the destruction of non-believers,
    being merciful towards Israel, it is explicitly stated in Chronicles
    that G-d, considering him unworthy, did not permit him to build the
    Temple, as it was not fitting in His eyes, because of the many people
    David caused to be killed.

    ... Elijah gave vent to his anger, and although he did so only against
    unbelievers, against whom his wrath blazed up, the sages declared that
    God took him from the world, saying to him, "He who has so much zeal
    as thou hast is not fit to guide men, for thou wilt destroy them..
    Likewise, we find that Samuel feared Saul, and that Jacob was afraid
    to meet Esau...

    Any of [the prophets] who had two or three qualities which did not
    maintain the proper medium, as is explained in Chapter IV, is said
    to have seen G-d from behind two or three partitions....In fact, we
    find that some moral vices cause prophecy to be entirely withdrawn.

The Rambam provided citations from pesukim and Chazal for each of his
assertions, but I ellipsed most of them in favor of brevity.

Standing for the Elderly Although the topic of standing for the elderly is
very relevant, so many of the halachos are unknown. One sees elderly
people,1 both learned and not learned, every day. At what age is one
considered elderly? From when does the halachah to stand for the elderly
apply? Until when does one have to stand? Does one have to stand for a
non-Jew? What about an elderly woman who is learned? If an elderly person
is mochel on his honor, does one still have to stand for him? These and
other questions will be discussed in this issue.(This discussion does not
relate to one?s rebbi or the rebbi from whom he received most of his
knowledge, as the halachah for a rebbi is different.)
